What happens when you dunk a jelly baby in molten potassium chlorate? We just had to know. 🍬 The exothermic reaction with the sugar produces a loud whistling sound, lots of smoke and a flame tinged with violet from the potassium — and a delicious aroma of caramel. We picked jelly babies because of their high sugar content (other sweets have caused explosions – they contain additional chemicals that the jelly babies don’t).
