The vintage World War II fighter was piloted by 47-year-old Roy “Bud” Whittle during an afternoon aerobatic display. The sequence began normally, but as the aircraft pulled into a steep, near-vertical climb, it failed to level out. Witnesses and video footage showed the aircraft continuing upward until it lost all forward speed, stalled, and
