Mowing the lawn. Along the coastal estuaries of Alaska are open meadows containing a variety of salt tolerant sedges that contain a high percentage of protein. They are at their most nutritious in spring and early summer- but, the constant grazing of these coastal brown bears prolongs their regeneration and lengthens the time of growth before they go to seed. Like bison on the prairie, bears’ grazing affects the life cycle of the coastal sedges and possibly encourages further productivity. #natu
