The canary in the coal mine is dead. With Danielle Smith's UCP invoking the notwithstanding clause and overriding teacher's guaranteed rights to end a labour dispute, Alberta's government has taken another firm step over the line. We can look around the world and see authoritarianism taking hold of once strong democracies. But it would be at our peril to ignore the seeds of the very same disease being planted right in our Legislature. | Troy Pavlek
