The State of Texas is pausing new border wall construction contracts as it completes already started segments, and hopes for reimbursement funds from the federal government for border security costs.

Four years after Gov. Greg Abbott said Texas would be the first state to build its own border wall, lawmakers quietly stopped funding the project.

Andrew Mahaleris, a senior aide to Governor Greg Abbott, said efforts to secure the border have enabled the state to make adjustments.
