Rutgers football showed late life, but it turned out to be too little, too late. The Scarlet Knights struggled offensively for much of the game and failed to capitalize on some key chances in what became a 14-7 loss to Nebraska on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. The loss dropped Rutgers to 4-1 for the season.

A pair of first-half rushing scores was just enough offense for Nebraska as the Blackshirts — helped by a late special teams turnaround — sealed a Husker win over Rutgers.

Nebraska has lost 25 consecutive games, dating to 2016, against ranked opponents, a streak that promotes another pesky narrative. Next up are two chances to beat a ranked team on the road before Nebraska returns to Memorial Stadium on Nov. 2 against UCLA.
