California-based AI startup Perplexity offered over $34B to buy Google Chrome as it battles for industry dominance with bigger names like Meta and OpenAI.

The company told The Wall Street Journal that several investors including large venture-capital funds have agreed to back the purchase.

In an unlikely bid that shows the growing brashness of young artificial intelligence companies, the A.I. start-up Perplexity has made an unsolicited offer to buy Google’s Chrome web browser for $34.5 billion.
