It really hasn’t felt like winter in Texas lately, but that will change in a big way starting this weekend with snow possible in parts of the Lone Star State.
For weeks, winter weather has evaded North Texas. Temperatures have regularly been 10 to 20 degrees above normal. At least six new daily heat records were set. And each time a cold front has moved in, it hasn’t lasted long before warm conditions returned.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed Austin and areas along the Interstate 35 corridor under a low risk for severe thunderstorms on Friday.

Snow is officially falling in Texas. A winter system has impacted the region near Midland/Odessa, and brought snowfall Monday, December 29, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). In a social media post, folks at the National Weather Service shared video of snow falling outside their offices.
Snow amounts in the impacted states are expected to remain around 6 inches or less, depending on the location. States expecting to see snowfall on Friday are Alaska, Colorado, Arizona, Michigan, New Mexico, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin.
