South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has sacked his powerful and long-serving spy chief Gen Akol Koor Kuc. He became head of the feared National Security Services (NSS) after independence in 2011 and continued throughout the bitter civil war that followed.

NAIROBI (Reuters) - South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has dismissed the country's long-serving intelligence chief, replacing him with a close ally, state broadcaster SSBC reported, citing a presidential decree.

The US has announced the arrival of the new USAID Mission Director David Thompson in South Sudan. US Ambassador to South Sudan Michael J. Adler made the announcement in a press release on Monday.

The dismissal of Akol Koor Kuc came weeks after the transitional government announced yet another election delay.
