The Edmonton Oilers will play the next three games without superstar captain Connor McDavid after the NHL suspended him for cross-checking Vancouver Canucks winger Conor Garland on Saturday.
All five of those players are still on the Canucks’ roster, which is only missing Elias Lindholm, acquired on the eve of All-Star Weekend, of the six that went to the All-Star Game. And yet, the team they’re on now is unrecognizable.
After all the hostility at the end of Saturday game, all the talk about “response” and using all this emotion to their advantage, the Canucks barely made a peep on Thursday. Where has all the heart gone?

The Canucks will look for a bounce-back effort on Saturday against the Capitals. This will be the final of two meetings between Vancouver and Washington, with the Capitals picking up an overtime win earlier this month. Game time is set for 7:00 pm PT at Rogers Arena.
