From county-by-county skirmishes over the validity of individual ballots to sweeping Republican-led challenges aimed at overturning the statewide results, the 2020 presidential race was the most thoroughly litigated election in Pennsylvania's history.

Experts have raised concerns about Supreme Court intervention in the 2024 election, but recent signals suggest the justices may avoid getting involved.

Some have speculated that the Supreme Court has kept its fall schedule light in case it decides to take up litigation that could affect the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Yet there is reason to believe that the court will stay out of the election in any major way unless we have a close election à la Florida in 2000 or in the unlikely event that elected or election officials seek to subvert the outcome of the vote.

One mail ballot case was brought by a coalition of civil rights organizations while another was from the Republican National Committee.

The rejections mean that the rules for mail ballot voting will likely remain mostly unchanged for the Nov. 5 presidential election.
