Turnberry is not the only Scottish links being ignored by the R&A. Muirfield, located along the Firth of Forth east of Edinburgh, is reputed to be the purest of links courses. Its first Open was in 1892, and there have been 15 others, most recently in 2013 won by Phil Mickelson. Only St. Andrews has hosted more Opens than Muirfield.
There is wall-to-wall coverage, along with a six-hour time difference between Northern Ireland and Dallas. It will start at 12:30 a.m. on the Peacock streaming service, and then USA Network picks up coverage from 3 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
R&A officials met with the son of U.S. President Donald Trump this year to discuss the possibility of golf's British Open returning to Turnberry, R&A Chief Executive Mark Darbon said on Wednesday.
