Jon Mayer, who stepped into Garcia’s shoes as the lead guitarist and Weir’s right hand in 2015, took the stage in a black suit and dark sunglasses to play “Ripple” – one of many songs for which Weir took over singing duties after Garcia’s passing.
Mayer, who has been playing alongside Weir in the Grateful Dead offshoot band Dead & Company for the past 10 years, gave a eulogy at the public event held at the Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco, Calif., on Saturday, Jan. 17, where the "Gravity" singer couldn't help from shedding a few tears.

"I last saw Bob when we went to the Sphere in Las Vegas to watch Dead and Co," McCartney wrote. "He was very welcoming and during the interval in the show he invited us into his trailer, and it was a special moment to meet his family and friends.
Weir, who inspired generations of fans as singer-guitarist with the Grateful Dead, was memorialized music lovers from around the world during a public memorial Saturday.
The Grateful Dead guitarist had the nature of a well-meaning cowboy, and a lasting capacity to access wonder and deep engagement.
