Mary Sheffield’s 12-year Detroit City Council career reached a new plateau on Tuesday after the city elected her as the first woman mayor in the city’s history. Unofficial election results showed that Sheffield won in Tuesday’s contest against fellow Democrat and pastor Solomon Kinloch.
