Whatever one thought of how the show portrayed therapy, and plenty were appalled by the idea that doctor-patient boundaries are more annoying inconvenience than ironclad principle, Season 1 of “Shrinking” at least had a hook-y premise to structure its broader study of grief.

The show's brilliant cast all return for a second round, taking the characters through new challenges and delivering the show's very funny, genuinely moving script to perfection. With just two episodes out on Apple TV+, Shrinking picks up where we left off with these now ingrained characters and wisely doesn't reinvent the wheel.

The sitcom, from "Ted Lasso" co-creator Bill Lawrence, strains to emulate its accomplished predecessor, as it follows a well-meaning dad working to resolve his issues through radical kindness.
