Ajinkya Rahane emphasized the importance of giving players ‘freedom’ and ‘confidence’ as Mumbai was awarded Rs 1 crore by the Mumbai Cricket Association for its historic Irani Cup triumph.

It took 27 years for Mumbai to end their Irani Cup drought. “Special feeling, winning after 27 years feels amazing,” is how the captain Ajinkya Rahane would sum up Mumbai’s 15th Irani Cup triumph.

Mumbai’s last Irani Cup victory came during the 1997-98 season and since then, the domestic powerhouse appeared in eight more finals without success, the last of which was in the 2015-16 season.
