NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO) — The first phase to strengthen the security plan for Super Bowl LIX and Mardi Gras is already in effect. Both are considered “SEAR 1” events by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. “SEAR” stands for “Special Event Assessment Rating,” and “One” indicates the highest level of federal assistance.

New Orleans will receive the most support possible from the federal government as it works to secure its streets for Mardi Gras this year, after President Joe Biden’s administration promptly granted the city’s request for extra aid in the wake of the deadly Bourbon Street attack on New Year’s Day.
