Hezbollah has fired an estimated 13,000 rockets into Israel over the past year in support of Hamas’ war with Israel in Gaza. Tens of thousands of northern Israelis have been displaced from their homes, and Israel has said its escalating war with Hezbollah is aimed at stopping those rockets so families can return home.

But the ISW said it was surprised by evidence from the early stages of the invasion showing an unwillingness to confront and fight Israeli troops. A report by the Washington-based think tank said: “ Hezbollah fighters do not appear to be defending against Israeli forces in these [southern] villages as the Israeli forces have consistently encountered weapons caches and infrastructure formerly used by Hezbollah fighters that left the area”.

Israel’s air force struck targets in Beirut for the first time in almost a week, and the US warned it could cut arms supplies if the humanitarian crisis in Gaza doesn’t improve.The Israel Defense Forces said it conducted the strike early Wednesday on an underground weapons-storage site in the southern suburbs of Beirut,

The U.N. Security Council adopted the resolution in August 2006 to end hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel. It never worked.
