As New York City ushered in its long-awaited congestion pricing plan, the FDNY sounded the alarm over what it calls a looming public safety crisis — one they warn could mean slower response times, longer shifts and millions of dollars in extra costs.

Two of New York City’s firefighter unions are criticizing the city’s newly-implemented congestion pricing plan, stating at a press conference on Sunday that the $9 toll will hurt response times and hike overtime fees.

FDNY EMS Local 2507, the union representing New York City’s emergency response teams, is calling for its members to transfer out of Midtown and Lower Manhattan ahead of the state’s launch of congestion pricing.
