Bank of Canada inflation target won’t change in 2026 mandate review: Macklem
Governor Tiff Macklem is speaking to a business crowd in Montreal today where he’s affirming the Bank of Canada’s commitment to keeping inflation low and preserving the value of money.
Fan noted that inflation breadth widened modestly, with about 54% of CPI components growing faster than three% on an annualized three-month basis, up from 50% in October. A narrower “supercore” measure that strips out goods and shelter rose 0.2% on the month and remained elevated at 3.2% year over year, suggesting pockets of persistence remain.
Governor Tiff Macklem says the Bank of Canada’s review of its framework next year must assess whether it gives the central bank the best chance of keeping inflation low and stable in a “more shock-prone world.
