An injured Novak Djokovic quit because of a torn muscle in his left leg after dropping the first set of his Australian Open semifinal against Alexander Zverev on Friday. Djokovic lost the opener 7-6 (5) in a tiebreaker and immediately walked around the net to concede the match to Zverev.

Zverev won a grueling first set in a 7–6 tiebreaker that lasted one hour and 20 minutes. Djokovic decided he couldn't continue with a left leg injury that was hindering him throughout the match. The 10-time Australian Open champion revealed afterward that the injury was a muscle tear.

Alexander Zverev has qualified for his first Australian Open final after he received a walkover in the aftermath of Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal due to an injury. Zverev will face either Jannik Sinner or Ben Shelton in Sunday’s final.
